Riva San Vitale Community Intervention
While studying abroad in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland, I participated in a design-build project with three of my colleagues. We were tasked with creating a temporary installation in our host community’s waterfront park for a three-day exhibition. We developed our proposal as a series of four walls with pivoting wooden shutters which would encourage interactions between visitors of the installation, and frame views of the installation’s surroundings. We observed many members of the Riva San Vitale Community moving through the installation, operating the shutters of the installation and playing with the installation. One resident of Riva San Vitale enjoyed our installation so much that she offered to buy it from us to use as a room divider in her house.
